So what happened to not judging people on appearance?

Why is it we judge so much on people's appearances? We all do it! But why? What makes us better than the next person? And more importantly how would we feel if our appearance was being judged. I do it myself. I had a bad case of saying things far too loudly when I was with my best friends in town like.. "Wow her pants are up her f**king bum, why oh why is she wearing leggings" or "F**k me he stunk". What gives me a right to say this aloud? Yes we are all allowed our own opinions and we may think the person sat next to us on the bus should have showered this morning, because lets face it, it is rude to sit next to someone when you haven't showered for three days! Fine if you want to smell like that in your bedroom/house but in public! No one should have to smell it. So this brings me on to what made me want to write this blog. Yesterday at work I was approached by my supervisor. He mentioned he used to have a certain amount of piercings, his eye brow, his lips and nose I think. I nodded. He said a few years ago I was asked to take these out. No one has approached me about your nose piercing Shannon but I am just warning you. So obviously I understand that a nose ring isn't as appropriate as a nose stud however I have had my nose pierced since my first day of working there! So why is it certain things are unacceptable? I worked for the same company at home in Exeter, where my friends had tattoos, nose rings, ear stretchers etc. I didn't understand the difference when I worked for the same people. Did a nose ring suddenly make me worse at my job or a threat to the public? No and no. So why is it these things are frowned upon when they don't change a person. You hear that well respected jobs such as nurses and doctors aren't allowed these things and if they do they should hide them/take them out. But honestly should a couple tattoos or piercing really stop someone from getting a job? I think not. I accept other peoples opinions and if someone could sway me otherwise I'd accept it. However I feel as a society we judge too much on appearance and look past the qualities a person might have. We were all born on this earth together, whatever our race or sexuality, we should be working together not working against each other. Respect one another and most importantly love.

What worries me more, is the growing rate of young people who want to be something that only the imagination and computers can see/make. They want to be so slim that their legs don't touch. They want to be looked at, so they hardly wear any clothes.. be it in a photo or on the street. They cover themselves in make-up & become something else. Why are they doing this to themselves? When they are fine the way they are? They don't need to cause themselves the pain of feeling ugly or being called a 'slut'. Or being played around by the boys who don't care. Be pretty by being you.

If the world was blind. How many people would you impress?
